debate countdown, with 24 hours to go, both president obama and mitt romney are prepping for their wednesday night face-off in the ring. romney took a break with his debate partner, senator rob portman, to get lunch at a chipotle in denver today. chipotle is pretty good. while obama stepped out of debate camp in nevada to visit the hoover dam. that's neat too. with as many as 60 million americans expected to watch, both camps keep expectations low. it's a big game to say i'm going to do worse than you. romney senior adviser barbara comstock is in denver and jen psaki, press secretary for the obama campaign is in las vegas with the president. good to see both of you. nice big smiles. i love this optimism. we're all excited about tomorrow. barbara, let me start with you. there was something politico's chief political columnist wrote today that sort of made me smile and i wanted to get your reaction. roger simons wrote, there are three things mitt romney must do to win the presidential debate on wednesday. unfortunately, nobody knows what they are. do you know what they are? >> well, i think it

both campaigns are downplaying the candid wiping of their opponents. how will these low expectations play out? with more on this, joined by ed rollins, republican strategist top boxes contributor. likewise, doing great, especially looking forward to this conversation. what is the strategy? >> you cannot play down the debate. the biggest thing left in his campaign. if you don't do well it does not matter whether you said you're not going to do well. you discord against. traditionally presidents don't do as well in debates. nobody basically stands up and makes points back-and-forth. sometimes they're hard to get going. this president is a good debater. my sense is he will be on his best. romney obviously became a very good debater. style versus substance. charismatic, a great debater. romney, livermore. also very strong in a primary debate, as you just alluded to, especially against gingrich. >> i'm sure fully ready to go push and shove. i hope the talks more about what he will do as president. we all knew -- we all know what obama has done. we don't nee

both candidates right now, mitt romney and barack obama, no doubt, very nervous. i'm nervous, just looking at that picture. diane? >> okay, jake. i will see you tonight for the big event. and i want to bring in co-anchor of "good morning america" and anchor of "this week," my co-anchor tonight, george stephanopoulos. such a night after this long road. what are these two men thinking right now? >> reporter: probably exactly the same thing. tonight, don't take the other guy's bait. play your game. but there is more pressure on mitt romney tonight. you look at the polls right now, he's behind nationally, probably behind even more in the battleground statements. he needs a circuit breaker and he probably has to do something that gives people that say right now they're voting for the president, to give him a second look. >> give all of us a viewer's guide to what they are prepped to do. >> reporter: watch for almost every time mitt romney gets a question, he will try to turn it back to president obama's record. and make president obama bear responsibility for the econo

in terms of policy, i know that both romney and obama have been recently talking about this, getting suddenly tough on china in the election season but you know we have currency manipulation going on in china so it is hard to compete against a country dumping mass amounts of product back to the united states. in terms of policy, that's going to have to be addressed. if you want to see the after effects or the consequences of turning our cheek year after year toward these illegal currency manipulations, you can look no further than detroit city. and also in terms of -- i think detroit needs to really invite more entrepreneurship. it needs to diversify the economy as rached said. we're talking about a city that has relied on the big three to take care of it. for too many years. it is hard to get out of that mindset. i think making detroit an attractive place for small businesses is something that the city should be doing because there is a lot of faith and there are resources and people want to work. >> jennifer: you guys. you know this is near and dear to my heart. i'm grateful to you
